My Dear E

Robert Anton Wilson

Are these just Accidents, or have we found some actual Substance?  Looking closer, we seem to have JC connected to the Freudian E, while we have Dr connected to the Jungian E.  The unconscious Ego E and the non-local E are without such explicit identifications.  Who, or what is John Carter?

In order to better answer this question, I went to see John Carter again intending to once again view the film while listening to Dark Side of the Moon.  At the last minute, I decided to sabotage the experience.  I instead listened to The Wall, using the same starting point that I had used for The Kubrick Transformer.  I wanted to see if I could "ruin" the film.  I wanted to be bored.

Right from the start, I knew this wasn't going to happen.

It was as if I had watched the opening scene with my eyes closed the first time.  The energy and power of the opening sequence was incredible, and there was an adrenaline rush that was completely lost to me during the first viewing.  This is not to say that The Wall is better, or to condemn Dark Side of the Moon as an inferior soundtrack.   It's just different.  VERY different.

The Wall not only provides a different way of seeing John Carter, but it also provides a different way of feeling John Carter, a new set of emotions.  These differences don't necessarily alter the story in any way, but there is greater emphasis on different things, revealing different facets of the characters, the landscapes, and the action.  Where as Dark Side of the Moon seemed to be a long movie, The Wall raced by.  And as far as syncs go….well, you'll have to just go and see for yourself.

One of these days, I might actually watch this movie the way it's "supposed" to be seen.  For now, I'm going to continue cutting it into little pieces.  Hmm…

If M is for "Moon", and W is for "Wall"…

….what is E for?

  2. Disney is working on adapting Philip K Dick's "The King of the Elves" for a 2013 release, so it's safe to say the Magick Kingdom is going inner space via outer space.
